Server upgrades

Business Server Upgrades and Installations

An honest assessment of the estate you have, a workload-led recommendation, then a planned upgrade or installation with the migration handled properly.

Overview

Our Approach to Server upgrades

Ageing servers rarely fail conveniently. Support ends, performance slips, and the risk builds quietly until something forces the issue. Cloud Agile assesses the estate, sets out the options — upgrade, replace, virtualise or move the workload — and then delivers the agreed work with migration, testing and documentation included.

What's Included

Everything You Need From Server upgrades

  • Assessment of the existing server estate and its workloads
  • Support status, warranty and hardware lifecycle review
  • Upgrade, replace or migrate recommendations with the reasoning
  • Capacity, performance and resilience requirements
  • Data and application migration planning
  • Installation, configuration, testing, documentation and handover

Assessing the estate before recommending anything

We look at what the servers actually do, not just their age. A box running one legacy application has different options from a virtualisation host carrying the whole business.

  • Hardware age, warranty status and operating-system support dates
  • Workloads, dependencies and the applications that rely on each server
  • Performance and capacity headroom against real usage
  • Backup coverage and recovery expectations for each workload
  • Physical environment, power and where the equipment lives

Upgrade, replace or move the workload

Cloud is not automatically the right destination, and neither is new hardware. The decision is workload-led and commercial: licensing, data volumes, application support and how long the business expects to run the system all matter.

  • Extending life through memory, storage or operating-system upgrades
  • New physical or virtual servers where a refresh is the right answer
  • Moving suitable workloads to Azure or a software-as-a-service alternative
  • Retiring servers whose function is genuinely no longer needed
  • Modelled costs over a realistic period so the comparison is fair

Delivery, testing and handover

Installation work is scheduled around the business, with a backout position agreed before anything is changed. Nothing is signed off until it has been tested by the people who depend on it.

  • Build and configuration to an agreed, documented standard
  • Data and application migration with verified backups before cutover
  • Security baseline: patching, access control and administrative accounts
  • Testing with the business, not just at a technical level
  • Documentation, asset records and handover to your team or ours
  • Ongoing monitoring, patching and support
Delivery

How a Project Works

  1. 1

    Assess

Audit the estate, workloads, support status and capacity.

  2. 2

    Recommend

Set out upgrade, replace or migrate options with costs and reasoning.

  3. 3

    Plan

Agree scope, sequencing, downtime windows and the backout position.

  4. 4

    Deliver

Install, configure and migrate, with backups verified before cutover.

  5. 5

    Validate

Test with the business, document the build and hand over formally.

Why It Matters

The Outcomes You'll Actually See

Advice before hardware

The recommendation follows the workloads and the commercials, not a default preference for new kit.

Migrations that are rehearsed

Dependencies are mapped, backups verified and windows agreed before anything changes.

Documented, supportable builds

You are left with an environment your team, or ours, can run confidently.

What Success Looks Like

  • A clear picture of the server estate and its risks
  • A costed recommendation you can take to the board
  • Installed and migrated systems, tested with the people who use them
  • Documentation, asset records and ongoing support

FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Should we replace our server or move to the cloud?+

It depends on the workload. Licensing, data volumes, application support and how long you expect to run the system usually decide it. We model both options over a realistic period and recommend on the evidence rather than on principle.

Our server is out of support. How urgent is that?+

Unsupported operating systems stop receiving security updates, which is a genuine risk and increasingly a problem for insurers and certification. We assess exposure, propose a practical path and prioritise the workloads that carry the most risk.

How much downtime will an upgrade need?+

That depends on the workload and the approach. We agree the window in planning, sequence work to minimise disruption where possible, and always have a tested backout position before cutover.

Can you work with hardware we have already bought?+

Yes. We will assess whether it suits the workload, and if it does we will build, migrate and document it. If it does not, we will explain why before anything is deployed.
